People at Jaliapara of Guimara in Khagrachari on Sunday form a human chain protesting against transfer of a popular physician.

People at Jaliapara of Guimara in Khagrachari on Sunday formed a human chain protesting against transfer of a physician and ending a healthcare project of a non-government organisation at the locality.

The human chain was formed at Jaliapara crossin, an area dominated by Bengali settlers, demanding to stop transfer of physician Khalid Al Azam, who worked at a clinic run by Bangladesh Islamic Mission.

Participants at the human chain said usually MBBS doctors do not stay at remote areas like Jaliapara but Khalid was opposite it. He provided medical facilities free of cost for long.

Presided over by Jaliapara Bazar committee president Nurunnabi Chowdhury Rubel, the programme was also addressed by local union council member M Arman Hossain, Samaj Parichalana Committee general secretary M Jamal Uddin and Guimara upazila unit Awami League publicity secretary Sheikh M Hafizur Rahman.

They asked authorities concern to stop transfer of Khalid.
